Rini Ngai is the Principal of Euphoria Lighting Studio, an architectural lighting practice specializing in luxury residential, hospitality, and boutique commercial environments. With over 17 years of experience spanning interior design, architectural lighting design, engineering consulting, and specification development, she brings a unique understanding of the relationship between light, architecture, materiality, and the human experience.
Rini began her career with Yabu Pushelberg before transitioning into architectural lighting design with Smith + Andersen and Crossey Engineering. She later spent over eight years as a Senior Lighting Designer at H.H. Angus & Associates, leading lighting design for healthcare, transit, commercial, institutional, and exterior landscape projects, including the CHUM Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal, one of North America's largest healthcare developments.
A significant portion of Euphoria Lighting Studio's work has been developed through a close and trusted collaboration with Realm Studio & Indigo BookStore over the past four years. Working alongside the studio's principal designers, Rini has served as a dedicated lighting design partner on a portfolio of luxury residential, boutique commercial, and hospitality projects, contributing from the earliest stages of concept development through project completion.
This long-standing relationship has been built on a shared commitment to thoughtful design, craftsmanship, and the seamless integration of lighting within architecture and interiors. Through this collaborative approach, lighting is considered an essential design element rather than an afterthought—enhancing materiality, reinforcing spatial hierarchy, and creating atmosphere that supports the overall vision of each project.
Today, through Euphoria Lighting Studio, Rini collaborates with architects, interior designers, developers, contractors, electrical engineers/distributors and homeowners to create lighting environments that balance technical precision with atmosphere and emotion. Guided by a philosophy of restraint, the studio uses light to reveal architecture, enhance materiality, and create timeless, immersive spaces.
Rini also serves as Education Chair for the Toronto Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), where she coordinates the Fundamentals of Lighting (FOL) program and supports professional education within the lighting community.
Her work is defined by a balance of design sensitivity, technical expertise, and collaboration, delivering lighting solutions that enhance both architecture and the human experience.
